Responsible Gambling

Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money or escape a problem. ClubPlay only lists bookmakers licensed by South African provincial gambling boards, and every listing is 18+ only. Last updated 29 September 2026.

Signs to watch for

Gambling can become a problem for anyone. Some common warning signs:

  • Betting more than you can afford to lose, or chasing losses with bigger bets
  • Borrowing money, or selling things, to fund gambling
  • Lying to family or friends about how much time or money you spend gambling
  • Feeling irritable, anxious or guilty when you try to cut down
  • Gambling affecting your work, studies, or relationships

If any of this sounds familiar, for you or someone you know, help is available and confidential, see below.

Tools that help

Most licensed South African bookmakers offer tools to help you stay in control, though availability varies by operator:

  • Deposit limits, daily, weekly or monthly caps you set yourself
  • Self-exclusion, temporarily or permanently locking yourself out of an account
  • Reality checks and session time reminders
  • Cooling-off periods that pause your account for a set time

Ask your bookmaker's support team which of these they offer and how to set them up.

National Responsible Gambling Programme

The National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP) is run by the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF), a public-private partnership between the National Gambling Board, provincial licensing authorities and the gambling industry. It offers free, confidential counselling, including self-exclusion counselling, and treatment support.

The NRGP's self-exclusion process can exclude you from gambling venues for a set period, commonly around 6 months, while you receive counselling, with follow-up sessions required before any upliftment is considered. Contact the helpline above to start the process.

Every bookmaker listed on ClubPlay holds a valid licence from a South African provincial gambling board, and every listing carries an 18+ notice. Every external casino or betting link on clubplay.co.za goes only to a licensed operator, we never link to unlicensed or offshore gambling sites.
